
Reus, July 20, 2026. The NEWART Foundation and the NEWART Centre announce the passing this Saturday of their director, Vicente Matallana (Madrid, 1967), and wish to extend their condolences to his family, friends, and all those who shared in his professional and personal journey.
For the entire team at the NEWART Foundation and NEWART Centre, Matallana’s death comes as sad and unexpected news. Since the project’s inception, he was the fundamental pillar upon which all its activities were built, as well as a guiding figure in both professional and personal spheres.
Matallana was a leading figure in the fields of technology-based art and digital art preservation. Throughout his career, he also served as director of the BEEP Electronic Art Collection and as founder and director of LaAgencia, an independent company dedicated to technology-based art. His work contributed significantly to the promotion, dissemination, and preservation of electronic art at both national and international levels.
Vicente Matallana was a beloved and respected figure among art enthusiasts—particularly those interested in technology-based art—across the globe. Throughout his life, he was a staunch advocate for culture, art, and ethical and democratic values.
