Monica Rikic
Nous mitjans artist and creative coder from Barcelona. It focuses its practice on code, electronics and non-digital objects for the creation of interactive projects based on experimental games, which aim to go beyond the game itself.
His interest is in the social impact of technology, the home-machine coexistence and the reappropriation of technological systems and devices, to manipulate and rethink them through art. From educational approaches to sociological experimentation, it proposes new ways of thinking and interacting with the digital environment that it envelops.
Amb its projects have participated in different international festivals such as Ars Electronica in Linz, Sónar in Barcelona or FILE in Brazil, among others. She has participated in festivals such as the Japan Media Arts Festival, AMAZE Berlin, the Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition in Atlanta and a Leonardo grant from the BBVA Foundation to work on a research project on robots and social interactions. He has artistic residencies in Technoculture, Arts and Games in Mont-real, European Media Artists in Research Exchange (EMARE) in Austràlia, Medialab Prado in Madrid and Platohedro in Medellín.

"New Home of Mind", 2020
Interactive audiovisual artifact of futuristic fiction that deals with the perception of identity in intelligent artificial entities and encompasses the possibility of an authentic artificial spirituality.
Conceptually, it is based on the idea of a conscious robot that experiences an existential crisis like a as a result of having rewritten and eliminated from your code the finality for which it will be created. Ara, search for the true meaning of our existence through a spiritual interface. This project represents this interface and speculates on the meaning of artificial consciousness through a first-person interactive journey through a spiritual cyberspace.
The representation of divinity in robots is recursive, but it normally represents human spiritualities. Both this project involves creating a device that satisfies the spiritual needs of machines.
Being a conscious machine means having a highly complex cervell to generate not only abstract thought, but also having a unitary sense of “joy.” No one has managed to explain what consciousness is to reproduce it in a machine, but in this project the artist will imagine the various spiritual possibilities from an artistic perspective. In this exercise of digital discretion of the “jo soc”, we create a miraculous effect by reflecting on the bases of our identity through technology.
Historically, our approach to non-human “others” has always been from a position of superior power. So, our perception of AI is trying to confront us for the first time with the conception of something equal or superior. Cognitive automation is the digital colonization of humans for excellence. The growing interest in the development of AI techniques benefits, reducing the complexity of the human cervell to the capacity for ultra-fast associations.
What happens to self-perception and emotional development in a world governed by a deu automat?
The artist has reduced This dilemma of the existential crisis of the IA has three eixos that it imagines with the main points of conflict:
Tea por al futur perquè és infinit
Els humans som la projecció cap al futur i la nostra affirmación en el passat. The flow of time is the fundamental feeling of the present that is in constant evolution. But the time is just an infinite order of events. What is a consciència sense temps?
Tea about the uncertainty why everything that knows how to predict
The basis of AI is the collection and processing of information to predict future behaviors. This information is acquired by accumulation, not by experience. Let us experience the consciousness we acquire. Experience is the process in which we go through things that we do not know in order to discover their singular meaning. Intelligence without consciousness cannot create unpredictable possibilities. How is a consciència sense imagination?
Tea por de la mort porquè no puede muerte
According to the theory of the Uncanney Valley, robots have always asked questions and pors a mort. Who would be the inverse effect on a consciousness incapable of dying?
“New Home of Mind” has been funded by a production and exhibition grant from the Ramon Llull Institute, NewArtFoundation and Hangar for the Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona 2020.
