About the artwork

Across Sempere’s practice, line and geometric repetition are tools for exploring vision. This context invites attention to intervals, overlapping forms and the relationship between figure and background, beyond a figurative reading.

About the artwork

Another approach to his work is to consider light as a changing experience. Colour variations and optical effects can suggest depth and movement. The viewer’s active gaze is central to this investigation.

Eusebio Sempere: artistic career

From Paris to technological experimentation

In Paris during the 1950s, he encountered the avant-garde of abstraction. In 1955 he presented his mobile light reliefs at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. Moving to Madrid in 1960, he participated in Grupo Parpalló and developed an international career.

Between 1969 and 1972, he joined seminars at the Complutense University Computing Centre, connecting art with computers. In 1983 he received the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, recognising his exploration of new expressive media.
