About the artwork
Suspended spheres and electromagnetic fields generate changing trajectories above magnetic films. Their movement leaves traces that are continually renewed.
Artistic career: Alba Triana
Artistic practice and research
Her installations, sound and light sculptures, and vibrational objects reveal physical phenomena that often remain imperceptible. Through analogue processes and self-generating systems, she explores relationships between energy, matter and perception.
Trained as a composer, she studied at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, earned a master’s in Composition and New Media at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and pursued doctoral studies at the University of California, San Diego. Since the late 2000s her practice has moved from the concert hall into the exhibition space, with sound and light as her main materials. In 2023 she received the Prix Ars Electronica Award of Distinction (Digital Musics & Sound Art) for Harmonic Motion and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) award; earlier honours include the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship (2018) and the South Arts State Fellowship (2020). She has exhibited at the Ars Electronica Festival, Centquatre-Paris, the NEMO Biennale, ISEA, the Orange County Museum of Art, the Lowe Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá. Her work is held in collections including the Otazu Collection and that of the Banco de la República de Colombia.
