About the artwork
RAY is a multimodal interactive system that reinterprets the rayograph through artificial intelligence and live video. A camera observes the audience and continually transforms its visual data into a changing semantic image. The installation makes information hidden within the stream perceptible, connecting image-making, algorithmic interpretation and surveillance.

Career and projects
Weidi Zhang is a new-media artist and researcher. Her work connects data visualisation, intelligent systems and immersive experiences to explore shared human–machine realities. She studied Art and Technology at the California Institute of the Arts and Photography and Media at the University of Washington. Her career includes university research and teaching, alongside presentations at SIGGRAPH, ISEA, Japan Media Arts Festival, Lumen Prize, IEEE VISAP and the Society for Arts and Technology.
