Marina Nunez

Marina Núñez is a multidisciplinary artist who works in different formats: painting, video and new technologies. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and a doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Castella-la Manxa. Currently, she combines her second artistic career with teaching at the University of Vigo.
In her recent work, Marina Núñez invites us to reflect on how our subjectivitat and our life are affected by the interferences between all human and all technological that is produced each and every time. frequency. Because of this sense of anticipation of many of the most important current philosophical reflections, this work has had a great influence on contemporary debates.

A constant in this work is the representation of aberrant, different characters, those who are outside the canon. The anomalous things that populate the various paintings, infographics or videos are based on a metamorphic, hybrid and multiple identity.
It recreates an unstable and impure subjectivitat because the alteration does not follow that there, but rather constitutes basically the human being. Així, the seves histèriques dons, meduses, mòmies, monstres o cyborgs —tot i que pertanyen al teritori dels proscrits— do not seem to be llunyanes but they can affect-us and identify-us. The six images are perceived with miralls lleugerament deformats that suggest that the bogeria or the monstrosity are simply a question of grau.

The seven work is included in the collections of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Artium de Vitòria, MUSAC de Lleó, Patio Herreriano de Valladolid, TEA de Tenerife, Fundació La Caixa, Fundació Botín, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC, Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, Katzen Arts Center, American University Museum, in Washington DC, Fonds régional d’art contemporain in Còrsega.

"Still Life Tornados & Still Life Swell", 2021.

The works “Still Life Tornadoes”, “Still Life Swell”, are a reformulation of the Neo-Baroque Still Life genre in various videos, allegorizing both the questions related to human existence and its relationship to nature. The pictorial tone is very sophisticated, offering a fascinating approach of hyperreality that presents the viewer with concrete details such as the movement of a piece of cloth or the flow of liquid from a drop due to an inexplicable turbulence. Drama and beauty are intertwined in these works that explain the maturity of this artist.
