The space exhibits 25 works in its first months in operation
NEWART Centre in Reus has reported positively on its first months of activity after opening on 2 October 2025 with the inaugural exhibition “Hello World!”. Beyond establishing the centre in the city, the project, within NEWART Foundation, carried out an intensive programme throughout 2025 in digital art, innovation and the intersection of art, science and technology.
During this 2025, the center has had an outstanding presence in top-level events such as Sónar+D, Eufònic or Ars Electronica, as well as in initiatives such as the Science and City Biennial or ExproReus. It has also participated in institutions such as the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, with the presentation of projects linked to contemporary artistic research.
In parallel, NEWART Centre has promoted discussion and outreach through conferences and specialist forums, establishing itself as an active participant in the debate on digital culture. It has also continued to support artistic creation through initiatives such as NEWART Award ARCO —the successor to the ARCO-BEEP Electronic Art Award— and the Reddis Grant, reinforcing its commitment to artistic production and research.
The center has also developed projects in the field of conservation and documentation of digital art and in the creation of certification and traceability tools, positioning itself as an innovative actor in the sector. In this sense, it has established alliances with reference institutions and entities and participates in European projects within the Creative Europe program.
During these first months, the NEWART Centre has received 2,115 visitors and presents a collection of 25 works, in addition to welcoming visits from educational centers and cultural agents, reinforcing its link with the territory and its role as an open space for citizens.
Looking ahead to 2026, the centre’s main objectives are to expand its exhibition programme, strengthen its own productions and international co-productions, and consolidate its role as a hub for digital art research, conservation and dissemination. NEWART Centre will enter its second development phase, including a new outdoor exhibition space. This expansion will take place around the current facilities on two municipal plots, integrating technological art into the natural environment while extending the visitor experience and the centre’s capacity.
The manager of the NEWART Centre, Àlex Rodríguez, has valued this first stage very positively, ensuring that "these first months confirm that there was space and need for a centre like this in the territory". Rodríguez added that "the project has been located on international circuits and generates a real impact from the first moment".
