Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau

With a shared interest in artificial life and intelligence, Sommerer and Mignonneau are based on their disparate origins to produce sensory and deeply attractive experiences. Casant-se with Sommerer’s antecedents in botany, anthropology and sculpture with Mignonneau’s studies in video and modern art, the duet design interfaces that generate open and embodied trobades with the vius systems and science. For example, in “Interactive Plant Growing” (1992), the artists use Erkki Huhtamo’s notion of a “tactile gaze” to achieve both visual and physical interaction with the viewer: a human being needs to touch the real and living plants in order to trigger a projection of digital homologues in the installation. In this way, in “Fly Simulator” (2018) and “Neuro Mirror” (2018), the work of art results in unique visual feedback that depends on the input and activation of the user (that is, directing, wearing and manipulating a VR headset, or using gestures in a video). camera), així with conceptual aspects of human sensitivity with memory, emotional perception and creative visualization. Despite the passages between the creation of these works, each piece demonstrates the essential quality of the commitment that connects the work of the artists with the physical world.

As they apply for the latest research and art, technology plays more and more of a fascinating and complicated role in archaeology, the imitation and manipulation of nature, despite the generative qualities that all share.

Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau will complete their doctorates at CAiiA-STAR, University of Wales College of Art, Newport (Regne Unit) and Kobe University (Japan), respectively. The works of Sommerer and Mignonneau have been presented in more than 300 exhibitions and are included in museums and collections of world communication mitjans. Various media arts awards have been awarded, such as the “Golden Nica” Prix Ars Electronica d’Art Interactiu in 1994 (Linz, Austria), the “Ovation Award” from the Interactive Media Festival 1995 (Los Angeles, USA), the “Multi Media Award ’95” from the Multimedia Association Japan, and the “World Technology Award” 2001. to London. They have published numerous research articles on artificial life, interaction and interface design, and have donated numerous conferences to universities and international events. They are professors at the University of Art and Design of Linz, Austria, and also direct the Department of Culture of the Interfície de l’Institut de Mitjans de Comunicació.
